Helpful Year-End Resources
Use the following information to help with your 2010 year-end processing:
2010 Year-End Update Versions
The 2010 year-end release is available for versions 9.7.0 and 9.6.0 only. In order to complete 2010 year-end processing, you will need to upgrade to 9.6.0 or 9.7.0.
If you currently use Sage Timberline Office version:
- 9.7.0 - You can remain on 9.7.0 and install the 9.7.0 year-end update.
- 9.6.0 - You can remain on 9.6.0 and install the 9.6.0 year-end update. However, we recommend that you upgrade to 9.7.0 to take advantage of the latest performance and productivity enhancements.
- 9.5.0 - Upgrade to 9.7.0 in order to install the 2010 year-end update.
- 9.4.1 - Upgrade to 9.7.0 in order to install the 2010 year-end update.
Tip: Review the 9.7.0 Installation Checklist for upgrade information. For assistance with upgrading, contact your business partner or consultant.
Notes:
- Important Note About 2011 Tax Rate Changes - The 2011 tax rate changes are distributed separately. You will receive a notification when the tax files are ready for downloading. The first 2011 tax release is scheduled for availability next week, and will include all known updated rates.
Please note: Because the 2011 federal tax rates have not been released by the IRS they cannot be included in our December tax update. After the we have received the 2011 federal tax rates we will then update the tax rates and distribute them to you. We anticipate the earliest distribution will be in early January. To keep up to date with the changes, log on to the Sage Customer Portal and subscribe to Knowledgebase article KB2010. As we update information to this article you will receive an automatic notification.
- Estimating Compatitbility - 9.7.0 Update 5 is designed for Estimating and Accounting compatibility. If you use both Estimating and Accounting, and you install Update 5 to one suite, you must install Update 5 to the other as well. 9.6.0 Update 8 is available for Accounting only. A9.6.0 Estimating update is not required for compatibility
- Document Management - If you upgrade to Accounting 9.7 Update 4.1 or later and you also use Document Management, you must upgrade to Document Management 9.7.1. If you have already upgraded to DM 9.7.1, you can disregard this step.
- Upgrade Data - You may need to upgrade your data after you install the year-end update. Refer to the upgrade notes for your version.
- The 2010 year-end updates are cumulative. They include government and regulatory changes plus all enhancements and fixes from previous updates.
- We recommend you review the Release Notes for your version to determine if any of the changes affect you.

Tax Forms and eFiling
If you have installed 9.7.0, you have the option to electronically file (eFile) 2010 tax forms such as W-2s, 1099s, and Canadian T4s and T5018s. Through our partnership with Aatrix Software, a leading provider of online filing for payroll and other tax forms, you can generate, edit, and file your state and federal forms from within Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Property Management. The Year-End Procedures Guide provides step-by-step instructions for critical year-end tasks. In addition, it provides answers to commonly asked year-end questions, which can save you time during this busy time of year. In fact, we recommend that you check the Year-End Procedures Guide before you call customer support. Each year, we add helpful information based on the previous year’s customer support calls. If you have a subscription to any of our Sage Timberline Office service plans, you have access to the Sage Customer Portal – your online resource for everything from software updates to online technical support. From the Year-End Information page on the portal, you’ll be able to download the comprehensive 2010 Year-End Procedures Guide, access Anytime Learning sessions for some common year-end tasks, read the articles from our weekly series of year-end tips, and, of course, download your year-end software and tax updates.
Log on to the customer portal and search the Knowledgebase for KB2010 for the latest year-end resources.
You can also subscribe to the Year-End Information page so that you receive an email notification each time we add new year-end information.

Year-end Tax Forms Changes
If you use 9.6.0, you must print your W-2s and 1099s on pre-printed forms as you have in previous years. Version 9.7.0 also continues to support the use of pre-printed tax forms.
With the addition of new Tax Forms and eFiling options in Sage Timberline Office 9.7.0, you now have additional choices for year-end tax forms printing. If you choose to use Aatrix Tax Forms and eFiling to process your tax forms, you can purchase blank perforated W-2 and 1099 paper for employee or recipient copies.
Use the following guidelines for paper if you choose to print with Aatrix rather than eFile:
- Federal W-2s - blank paper
- Employee W-2s - perforated, blank W-2 paper
- Federal 1099s - must be printed on pre-printed red ink paper
- Recipient 1099s - perforated blank 1099 paper
- Form 1096 - must be printed on pre-printed red ink paper
- Canadian Employee T4 - blank paper
- Canadian Recipient T5018 - can use perforated blank 1099 paper
Canadian Government T4 and T5018 are filed electronically.

- Complete the form to submit a support ticket directly to customer support.

If you prefer to speak to customer support and your service plan provides telephone support assistance, call customer support at 800-551-8307. Telephone support is available Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time, with the following exceptions:
- Every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Pacific Time (closed for customer support staff meetings)
- Standard United States holidays
- Quarterly company meetings

If your service plan does not provide online or telephone customer support and you would like to add or upgrade a service plan:
