How to find a Tax Code in Sage Abra Suite version 9.0x/9.1x

Scenario: a New Hire employee who lives and works in a different state was added into the system and needs the state taxes assigned. This is the first employee who needs a different state's taxes.

The locality is known, but there are so many taxes in System Tax Tables, how to find the correct tax code?

  1. Access Setup, Payroll, System Tax Tables
  2. Select the Description drop-down box and scroll through the descriptions, which are generally in alphabetic order. When the correct system tax code description is found, select that description and note the Tax Code field.
  3. To ensure the new tax code has been updated to the most recent changes, select the button: Apply Legislative Updates and for each tab, review if there are state or local taxes that need to be installed.
  4. Next, access Setup, Payroll, Tax (or in System Tax Tables, select the Rule Type drop-down box and choose Tax Codes).
  5. Tax Codes are set up per employer, select the appropriate employer.
  6. Next, select the Copy button, and choose System Tables. To display the taxes by the description, change the "Sort selection list by" to Description. Select the desired order of Ascending or Descending, then click OK
  7. Scroll through the list, locate the desired taxes, highlight, and click Select to move the tax to the selected column. Then select OK.
  8. Make sure to click More on this new tax to set up the tax with the required Taxable Earnings, Pre-Tax Deductions and General Ledger codes.
